ANDREA COLLIAR COUNSELLING
Couples Counselling
Most people arrive to couples counselling after experiencing many years of feeling stuck and exhausted by the cycle they are in with their partner. It can also feel, understandably so scary to make this step, to open up about the challenges and arguments that leave them feeling hopeless at times. Knowing this, in my approach to couples counselling I strive to generate hope with each couple by helping them become more aware of the patterns of disconnection, how to generate change in the patterns, and practical skills that may help along the way.

"Love has an immense ability to help heal the devastating wounds that life sometimes deals us. Love also enhances our sense of connection to the larger world. Loving responsiveness is the foundation of a truly compassionate, civilized society."

My Approach
Each couple arrives to counselling with unique challenges and strengths, while also experiencing things that occur universally in relationships. I aim to meet each couple where they are at and to collaborate with you on developing the best approach for you. The basis for my work is largely person-centred theory and emotionally focused therapy for couples. Both of which focus on building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, empathy, and acceptance; and the exploration and processing of emotions. Sometimes life and its many demands can get in the way of expressing how you truly feel with your partner and in the way that you want to; in our work together we will slow down and co-create new or forgotten ways of reconnecting and staying connected in times of distress.
